The KAYF Youth Orchestra launched in the Spring of 2016 and currently is the only Korean American youth orchestra managed by a youth based nonprofit organization. The orchestra is headed by renowned Maestro Max Min who is active as a professional conductor and trumpeter.
Mr. Min performs extensively throughout the United States and Korea, at various venues such as Carnegie hall, Merkin Concert hall, and the Seoul Art Center, National Theater in Seoul. He holds two Master’s degrees in conducting and trumpet performance from Aaron Copland School of Music, City University of New York where he studied conducting with Maurice Peress, Philip Greenberg and also Dr. Donald Portnoy at the Conductors Institute of South Carolina. Mr. Min was an assistant conductor of the Queens College Orchestra for three years. He is a recipient of The Elizabeth Simon Chamber Music Live Award and The Dicimus Ut Serviamus Music Award.
Maestro Min served as an adjunct professor of Union County College in New Jersey, was a previous member of the Baroque Consort of New York, Kings Brass of New York, Brandenburg Ensemble and the music director and conductor of the New York Phidias Symphony Orchestra. Currently Mr. Min is a music director and a conductor of the New York Tutti Ensemble, the Korean American Youth Foundation Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Koyro United Methodist Church.
