As we reimagine leadership in the 21st century, the KAYF Scholarship 2018 is intended to encourage young Korean Americans who demonstrate their potentials to become socially responsible leaders who make positive impact in their communities.

February 20 - Application Closed

KAYF Scholarship 2018 application is now closed. All applications submitted prior to the deadline will be reviewed in its entirety over the upcoming few weeks.

March 10 - Finalists Announcement

Finalists will be announced here and notified via email. 

March 25 - Scholarship Award Ceremony

Finalists and their guests will be invited to the award ceremony to be held on Sunday, March 25, 5 pm at our Flushing location, 163-07 Depot Road, Suite B1, Flushing, NY 11358.

ELIGIBILITY

You must be a high school Senior OR full time college undergraduate student enrolled in the 2017-2018 academic year. Preference will be given to Korean American youth (including biracial and adoptee) living in the New York Metropolitan area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) and those with financial need. Citizenship or immigration status will not be considered.

 

REQUIREMENTS

We ask that you prepare ALL of the following materials BEFORE starting the application. The online application will NOT save your information and only a completed application will be submitted. 

1. Two essays (each 500 words or less)

At KAYF, we have recently read a fascinating article published on the Washington Post about an in-depth research that identified the six top characteristics of success at Google. And they are:

  • being a good coach;
  • communicating and listening well;
  • possessing insights into others (including others different values and points of view);
  • having empathy toward and being supportive of one’s colleagues;
  • being a good critical thinker and problem solver; and
  • being able to make connections across complex ideas.

ESSAY 1: Which one of these characteristics do you think you are already practicing or strong in? And why? Feel free to include personal stories to support your response.

2. Two letters of recommendation

  • At least one recommendation must be from a school teacher or administrator
  • All letters must be DIRECTLY sent from the recommenders to hoin@kayf.org or 163-07 Depot Road, Suite B1, Flushing, NY 11358.
  • You will NOT be asked to upload these letters during the application process.

3. A copy of most recent transcripts with a cumulative GPA

4. A copy of most recent tax returns of yours OR your parents with the SSN redacted or blacked out

5. A portfolio of creative projects including video, photo, and web links that demonstrate your unique talents and passions (1GB or less) **Optional

6. A personal statement that describes your financial circumstances and why you may qualify (250 words or less) **Optional

 

All information is confidential and will be carefully discarded after the ceremony.
