During the Columbus Day Weekend, WAFL students headed to a camp in NJ. The annual Kickoff camp allows the new and returning students to meet each other for the first time and bond through team building activities, games, sports, and fun. It opens the program into a great start. We had activities like debate, talent show, KAYF x Shark Tank, a workshop with a Korean-American author Patricia Park, and games. The weather was amazing over the weekend and the students had opportunities to do rock climbing, high rope courses, archery and boating on a lake. The students had a great time working together and getting to know each other through camp. At night, they played card games, mafia and ate ramen and snacks. It was great to see the students challenging themselves to work in groups, stepping out of their comfort zone to speak in front of the public and overcoming their fears to do things they never thought of doing. The students took steps in becoming closer to a great leader.
On October 5th, we invited the parents of the WAFL students for an introductory orientation. The information session shared the details about the program, scholarships, community service projects, and other features the parents should expect for the year. The parents of the returning students shared the changes they saw in their kids, assured the new parents that it was a great decision to join KAYF. The new program coordinator, Jennifer Park explained the curriculum and the upcoming camp. Director Hansol Jung, Board Member Phillip Hong, Former President Alex Lee, and President Mike Kim welcomed the parents into the new year with words of encouragement and affirmation of the program. It was a great opportunity for the parents to meet the staff and board members of KAYF, learn the insights of the program their children will be attending and also meet other parents as well. A father of a student, Edward Park was voted unanimously as the President of the Parent group for the first time ever. it’s We are looking forward to a great year with the support of our WAFL Parents.
